Library Reopening Plan

CRDL Phased reopening plan, phase 1 curbside service, phase 2 limited access, phase 3 full access.

Current Status

CRDL is currently in Phase 2

Reopening Phases

Curbside pickup is available at all branch locations. Buildings will remain closed to the public. Staff will wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and practice social distancing.

CRDL will be following CDC guidelines to ensure that library items are safe to handle. While the risk of them transmitting COVID-19 is very, very low, we will take the precaution of setting returned items aside for 72 hours before processing them.

Beyond the curbside pickup, no other in-branch services will be offered under this level.

Digital services and virtual events, including the Summer Reading Club, will continue.

Access to Building and Collections: The public may return to all branch libraries to retrieve holds, select library materials, and check out library materials. Lingering will not be allowed. Entry will be metered to stay below applicable COVID-19 public gathering guidelines. Everyone age 2 and older must wear a covering over their nose and mouth, maintain physical distancing, and comply with all state and county procedures.

  • Toys, puzzles, and computers will have been removed from the children’s area.
  • Computer usage is limited and available by appointment only, with a limit of two hours, one time per day.
  • Curbside pickup will continue for those community members needing it.

Materials Handling: Materials will continue to be returned to book drops only and will be quarantined at each library branch for 72 hours. New materials received will be quarantined and prepared for shelving.

Cleaning and Disinfecting: All library branches will be cleaned daily, following strict guidelines as per the Center for Disease Control. Customer service areas and computer terminals will be disinfected throughout the day. Patrons have access to hand sanitizer and tissues.

Checkouts: Digital content may be borrowed online. Materials will be checked out at designated public service desks, and the use of self-checkout machines will be promoted.

Programs: Programs will be virtual-only. Registration will be required for Zoom programs.

Opening and Resumption of Normal Operations

Upon declaration from Michigan State and Central Michigan District Health Department, the library system will resume pre-COVID-19 services and programming.

This plan will be reviewed as needed and is subject to change. All actions planned and implemented will be done in compliance with the State of Michigan and Central Michigan District Health Department recommendations and will be approved by the Board of Trustees.

The timeframe for when we will move from one level to the next will be determined based on recommendations from health officials and how prepared we are to do so. CRDL will work to make sure the library is as safe as possible for patrons and Library staff.

Changes to our level of services will be communicated on our website and through email and social media. You can also contact your branch directly.
