MANHATTAN SHORT Film Festival Returns to Celebration Cinema

Start Date

Chippewa River District Library and Studio C present the 27th Annual MANHATTAN SHORT Film Festival at Celebration Cinema Mount Pleasant on September 29 at 2 p.m. and September 30 at 7 p.m.

MANHATTAN SHORT 2024 will screen simultaneously worldwide for one week. The Best Film and Best Actor awards will be determined by ballots cast by the audiences in each participating venue. By virtue of being selected by MANHATTAN SHORT, each short film is automatically Oscar-qualified.

“We’re excited to partner with Studio C to bring the Manhattan Short Film Festival back to Celebration Cinema,” said Andrea Graham, family programming coordinator. “We have been hosting this film festival for nearly a decade, and the response is always amazing. Our community enjoys getting the opportunity to see these Oscar-qualified short films.”

The MANHATTAN SHORT Final Ten are:

The Talent (UK), I’m Not a Robot (The Netherlands), Mother (Ukraine), Dovecote (Italy), Pathological (USA), Alarms (France), Favourites (Australia), The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent (Croatia), Room Taken (Ireland), Jane Austen’s Period Drama (USA)

All Final Ten short films are eligible for an Academy Award nomination by screening for a week at the Arena CineLounge in Hollywood, September 20-26.

“All attendees will be handed a ballot upon entry that allows them to vote for the Best Film and Actor,” said Graham. “We will also have a short discussion after the showing for those who wish to participate.”

The same short films are run at each show. This showing is free to attend, but registration is required. Visit crdl.org/event to register or contact the library at 989-773-3242. This film festival is sponsored by the Friends of Veterans Memorial Library.
