Program Description

Michigan's Civilian Conservation Corps camps have disappeared, but the legacy of the corps—the forests, parks, and conservation efforts—remains.  Learn about Michigan's CCC and its lasting impact at this presentation by Northern Lower Peninsula Historian Hillary Pine.

Hillary Pine, a member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, serves as the Northern Lower Peninsula Historian for the DNR and Michigan History Center. She is the curator of the Hartwick Pines Logging Museum, the Higgins Lake Nursery, the Michigan Civilian Conservation Corps Museum, and the upcoming Learning Commons at Gchi Mshiikenh deh Minising/Heart of the Great Turtle Island. Living in St. Ignace with her husband, daughter, and two cats, Hillary is passionate about sharing Michigan's rich stories with the public. This is a unique opportunity to learn from a historian deeply connected to Michigan's history and conservation efforts.
