Try This!
This simple experiment will allow you to create bongos from bananas!
This test requires a conductive material such as a banana, a lemon, or an apple. If you cannot obtain any of these items, you can use a piece of paper and a graphite pencil to color in a spot fully on the paper.
The following instructions use a banana cut in half for your bongos.
- Using the Chromebook included in the kit, open up Google Chrome and visit makeymakey.com/bongos
- Locate the Makey Makey, the USB cord included in the kit, four (4x) alligator clips, and a banana.
- Connect one of the alligator clip wires to the "Ground" on the Makey Makey and stab the other end into the first banana half.
- Connect another alligator clip to the "Ground" on the Makey Makey and stab the other end into the second banana half.
- Connect one alligator clip to the left directional pad on the Makey Makey and set the other clip aside for now.
- Connect one alligator clip to the "Space" pad on the Makey Makey and set the other clip aside for now.
- Plug one end of the included USB cable into the Makey Makey and the other end into a USB port on the Chromebook.
- To "play" the bongos, complete the circuit by tapping one of the clips attached to the left directional pad to the first half of the banana.
- Now, tap the alligator clip attached to the "Space" pad onto the second half of the banana.
- If connected correctly, you should hear bongo sounds!
